Peripheral Polyneuropathy Complicating Compartment Syndrome due to Rhabdomyolysis

Abstract

|
Rhabdomyolysis might be associated with peripheral nerve damage leading to neuropathy and a loss o f motor and sensory function. We report a young man suffering from peripheral polyneuropathy complicating compartment syndrome due to rhabdomyolysis caused by prolonged immobilization after antidepressive drug and alcohol overdose. The electrodiagnostic study showed peripheral polyneuropathy in the left lower extremity. The computed tom ography and bone scan revealed left lower extremity rhabdomyolysis. The patient received medical treatment and rehabilitation. The patient recovered well with supportive care but still suffered mild weakness on the left ankle.
